Diabetes is a complex chronic metabolic disorder categorized primarily into two types: Type 1 and Type 2.

Type 1 Diabetes This form of diabetes affects a relatively small number of individuals, often referred to as juvenile diabetes due to its peak onset before the age of 14. It results from genetic factors, autoimmune responses, or viral infections affecting insulin production in the pancreas, necessitating insulin injections for treatment.

Type 2 Diabetes The more common type is Type 2 diabetes, which is most prevalent in individuals over the age of 45. It arises from "insulin resistance" or insufficient insulin secretion and is often associated with factors such as obesity and lack of physical activity. Research has shown that diabetes is also linked to long-term bodily inflammation.   Both types of diabetes are linked to insulin irregularities, leading to elevated blood sugar levels. High blood sugar continuously stimulates the immune system, causing inflammation, creating a mutual interaction between chronic inflammation and diabetes that threatens our health.

As we age, the risk of developing diabetes increases, as the body becomes more prone to chronic inflammation. Furthermore, diabetes itself can trigger other significant health conditions, such as cardiovascular diseases, retinopathy, and neuropathy. Therefore, for individuals over 45, preventing chronic inflammation and diabetes is a crucial concern. In addition to lifestyle and exercise habits, regularly monitoring blood sugar levels, incorporating anti-inflammatory foods or supplements can reduce the risk of diabetes and other related diseases.
